Subs give the win to Naxxar Lions


Naxxar Lions started the match with an offensive 4-4-2 setup, looking for the goal from the first minute. In fact, Kevin Fenech had his first shot over the cross bar in the first minute of the match. Fifteen minutes later, Gilbert Camilleri slightly missed the target from a bicycle kick. In the 18th minute, a freekick by Adrian Fenech was saved by Qrendi keeper Neville Ciantar and from the rebound Jonathan Agius missed the target. Few minutes later, between the 25th and the 34th minute, Kevin Fenech had three good shots at goal from outside the penalty area, missing the target by a few inches. In the 42nd minute, Qrendi had their first serious attack when they tested the Naxxar goalkeeper, David Vella, from close range. The last chance of the first half was Qrendi's, when their striker shot wide from a counter attack.

In the second half, the Lions increased their efforts, creating even more goal scoring opportunities. The first one was in the 51st minute when a cross from Darren Falzon found Gilbert Camilleri who headed high. Ten minutes later, Darren Falzon opened the score when he shot from close range after receiving from Glen Magri. In the 66th minute, Kurt Farrugia had his shot saved by Neville Ciantar and in the 69th minute, Glen Magri's shot went wide. Three minutes later, Darren Falzon missed an opportunity, when after receiving a pass from Simon Muscat, he had his shot saved. From the rebound, Glen Magri missed the target. In the 76th minute, Darren Falzon had his shot blocked in the penalty area. Seven minutes from time, Qrendi had their only chance in the second half, when their striker shot centrally and David Vella saved without difficulty. In the 84th minute, Naxxar Lions increased their lead, when from an impossible angle, Simon Muscat scored a beautiful goal and closed the game.

With this win Naxxar Lions stretch their unbeaten run to ten matches and head to the last three matches of the season on equal points with Zejtun Corinthians.
